cycleactiveSkills Development
Mountain bike skills coaching can have a dramatic effect on your speed, efficiency and enjoyment.  We’ve teamed up with the UK’s leading skills training company, CycleActive, to offer both one day and weekend mountain bike courses.  The instruction is from some of the most experienced mtb tutors in Britain – meet them at the events or contact them direct on admin@cycleactive.co.uk if you want advice on which course suits you.

If you want to enhance your skills before your first marathon, or improve your times and your overall riding at any time of year, these are a great way to do it.  Course gift vouchers are also available from CycleActive.

Mountain Bike Skills Days (£85)

These one-day courses run right through the year and take place in trail centres in England, Wales and Scotland.  Each course lasts for a full day and gives you the chance to learn, practice and develop a whole range of biking skills.  Working in groups of no more than six participants you will get great personal attention and guidance, and come away with an action plan to help you continue improving long after the course has finished.

There are four courses to choose from:

  • Get Started
Start mountain biking the right way as you learn the core skills needed to ride any trail with confidence.
  • Singletrack Skills
Develop razor sharp bike handling as we get you flowing through singletrack at high speed.
    Jumps and Drops
Learn the techniques that will get you riding drops or flying off tabletops with control and style.
  • Speed and Energy
Go fast, stay smooth and manage your energy – the ideal course to prepare you for big events.

Mountain Bike Weekends (£195)

Visit Britain’s most incredible network of natural mountain trails on a Lake District weekend skills course. Based in the heart of the National Park, you combine great days out on the bike with skills sessions to improve your techniques.  Each course starts on Friday evening and includes two full days of guided riding and instruction plus two nights bed and breakfast in a comfortable guesthouse (shared room – single supplements available from £40).

There are three courses to choose from:

  • Core Skills (level 1)
Get the most out of mountain biking and practice as you journey through The Lakes.  The course covers body position, descents, technical climbs, how to manage speed, cornering, vision and line choice, and more.
  • Trials to Trails (level 2)
Improving bike control is vital to progress as a rider, and this is where trials skills come in as you learn the trackstand, wheelie, manual, endo, rear wheel lift and bunny hop. These are the skills which will let you ride drop-offs, step-ups and other obstacles.
  • Mountain Rider (level 3)
An advanced course for experienced bikers only with sessions built into full days out in the mountains, working on all aspects of bike control at high and low speed. Be prepared to push yourself, then enjoy the rewards.
